Devorah Blumberg

Manager - New Zealand Major Events

Devorah leads New Zealand Major Events, an investment arm of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. She has a background in public policy specialising in economic development strategy, microeconomic policies for generating business growth, and innovation systems. Before joining New Zealand Major Events, Devorah spent two years as an advisor to the New Zealand Prime Minister on tourism policy.

DON SCHUMACHER

Former Executive Director - National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC)

Don has been Executive Director of the NASC since 1994. He also recently served four years on the board of directors of the U.S. Travel Association.

Don has spent thirty five years managing arenas, stadiums and a sports hall of fame, bidding on and promoting sports events, conducting market and feasibility studies for potential new sports facilities, and consulting with sports commissions and destination marketing organizations. He has completed more than 100 studies for a wide variety of clients such as - sport facility audits, strategic planning and workshops focused on sport tourism.

Don is well respected as a global speaker and was named one of “25 Influential People You Should Know” by Sports Events magazine.

IAIN EDMONDSON

Head of Major Events - London & Partners

Iain’s role is to secure long-term major event opportunities for London which result in a positive impact on the city’s economy. He has been involved in a number of successful sporting bids and projects such as 2017 IAAF and IPC World Athletics Championships and the extension of the NFL’s commitment to staging regular season games in the city. Iain created the concept and led the development of the RideLondon festival of cycling and is also supporting the development of new major cultural events for the city, including the Lumiere London festival of light.

Prior to this role, Iain was part of the bid team that secured the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games for London, has delivered a number of multi-million pound public/private partnership projects for sports facilities, and has an MBA degree from the University of Cambridge.

Lars Lundov

CEO - Sport Event Denmark

Lars has been the head of Sport Event Denmark from the outset. With enthusiasm and commitment, Lars Lundov has lead the way for his team of employees all through the years. Lars Lundov’s main focus is on international relations within the international sports world / Olympic Movement and bidding for major international sports events. Through his wide, global network and because of the remarkable Danish results on the market for sports events, Lars Lundov is requested as a speaker at international conferences/congresses.

Paul Bush

Director of Events - EventScotland

Paul leads VisitScotland’s Events Directorate which includes Industry Development, Business Events and EventScotland. The directorate takes a strategic role in the Scottish events industry and is responsible for attracting, bidding for and securing major sporting, cultural and business events worldwide. Over the past decade, Scotland has brought some of the biggest event properties to the country, including The Ryder Cup and Commonwealth Games in 2014, many European and World Championships and the MTV Music Awards.

Paul was appointed Chairman of Commonwealth Games Scotland in May 2015 and previous roles include Chef De Mission for The Scottish Commonwealth Games. He was awarded an OBE for Services to Commonwealth Sport.

Rick Traer

CEO - Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance

Rick has served as the CEO since its inception in November, 2000. Prior to his involvement with the CSTA, Rick spent approximately 15 years in the national and provincial sport systems in Canada, including eight years as Executive Director of Basketball Canada. He also served two terms as President of FIBA Americas from 2000-2006, the governing body for basketball in the Americas based in San Juan, Puerto Rico

Susan Sawbridge

Manager Stakeholder Relations - Auckland Tourism, Events & Economic Development

ATEED is Auckland’s economic growth agency and the local government entity responsible for Major Events bidding, sponsorship and delivery in Auckland. Susan’s events career has included roles with a focus on the connection between tourism and events, event development, and prospecting and bidding. In these various capacities, Susan has worked on events including Rugby World Cup 2011, UCI BMX World Championships, Volvo Ocean Race Auckland Stopover, ITU World Championship Grand Final as well as the upcoming Lions Tour of New Zealand, World Masters Games 2017 and Rugby League World Cup 2017.

David Simon

President - Los Angeles Sports Council

David is President of the Los Angeles Sports Council and has served on bid committees and organizing committees for numerous major events. He also serves currently as the President of the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games, Chair of USA Badminton and Vice President of the World Union of Olympic Cities.
